Dr. Felicity Sapp is a Registered Clinical Psychologist in both Alberta and Ontario, Canada. She has worked in the area of mental health for more than 15 years with particular expertise in the area of OCD and anxiety disorders and working with children and adolescents. Dr. Sapp is accredited as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist by the Canadian Association of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Throughout her career, Dr. Sapp practiced in a variety of different clinical settings with clients of all ages, however, her love and passion for treating clients with Anxiety Disorders and Obsessive Compulsive Related Disorders soon became apparent.

In 2006, she decided to specialize her practice as she gained international experience treating a diversity of people and cultures with moderate to severe anxiety disorders, (in particular Obsessive Compulsive Related Disorders). Dr. Sapp worked as a staff psychologist in an intensive Out Patient program at a leading private anxiety treatment center in Sacramento, California where she treated clients with moderate to severe anxiety disorders who came from not only California but from across the United States. She saw a wide diversity of clients whose anxiety was extremely debilitating, such that they were unable to function in their everyday lives.  In addition, she had a thriving private practice specialising in the treatment of clients of all ages with Anxiety and OC Related Disorders.

Dr. Sapp also has extensive experience working with children and adolescents with mental health issues. Prior to working abroad, she
worked in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, Ontario for 8 years, where she treated children with a variety of complex psychiatric issues including, mood and anxiety disorders.  She also worked in the area of Pediatric Oncology, at Queen’s University Counseling Center, and in various private practices. Dr. Sapp was affiliated with both the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at Queen’s University as a lecturer and provided teaching and supervision to students.

Dr. Sapp obtained her Bachelor of Science (with Honours in Psychology) Degree from Dalhousie University, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario with both her Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on developmental (child) psychology.

Dr. Sapp has several academic papers published related to child development. She has collaborated with leading clinicians in the area of Obsessive Compulsive Related Disorders and published and presented internationally at conferences in the United States. Dr. Sapp provides teaching and supervision to trainees as part of the faculty of the Paediatric Behaviour Therapy Training Institute for the International OCD Foundation. While closer to home, she has provided anxiety workshops in Calgary schools for both teachers and parents.

Currently, Dr. Sapp treats clients of all ages with both OCD and anxiety disorders, including adults, adolescents and children in her private practice, OCD and Anxiety Psychological Services which she founded in 2008. She offers evidence based treatment in the form of cognitive-behavioural therapy (including exposure therapy and habit reversal training) to clients of all ages with anxiety disorders (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder, separation anxiety, panic, specific and social phobias) and obsessive-compulsive related disorders (e.g., OCD, trichotillomania, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding etc).

Dr. Sapp provides a warm compassionate atmosphere that incorporates each client’s individual and unique needs into their treatment plan. She uses a flexible approach that is respectful and eases clients into learning to face their fears at their own pace in a supportive and gradual way in order to not become overwhelmed. She often uses humour, when appropriate, to teach clients the necessary skills to manage their anxiety.

When treating children and adolescents, Dr Sapp takes on the role of “coach” as she works together with children and parents to provide a supportive and caring environment. She combines her innate ability to relate to children in a playful atmosphere with a cognitive behavioural approach as she helps children and parents learn the necessary tools to manage their worries, stress and fear.  As a mother of two, She enjoys and understands the stresses and challenges of raising a family.  Dr. Sapp is dedicated to helping individuals and families struggling with OCD and the effects of anxiety.

In addition, she is passionate about educating individuals, especially school personnel about OCD and anxiety and the effect it can have on an individual's ability to function in everyday life.  Dr. Sapp is available to provide OCD and anxiety information or workshops to  communities, schools or groups.
